Well hello there you lovely lot, although it is rather typically grey outside in the UK, it is finally starting to warm up, Spring is that you? Please tell me it’s you? 10 degrees C is feeling practically tropical after last weeks -9! I am so ready to ditch the coat now and adorn a blazer….. who’s with me?

With this I’m getting all kinds of excited for the new trends that are going to be gracing us this spring! Last week I kicked off my JUST A TREND series with green, it now seems only natural to move on to a trend that I am absolutely obsessed with, CHECKED! I have absolutely no I idea why it feels “only natural” as there really is no connection at all, but hey it felt natural to me.

Checked, plaid, tartan, whatever you want to call it, has been a firm favourite in my (ever expanding) wardrobe for some years now. Last spring saw gingham make a huge comeback, table cloth type attire was everywhere, in every colour and I couldn’t have been happier about. I wore my ASOS gingham skirt to death and you’d be right in thinking that I am digging that bad boy out again.

Until now checks have only really made an appearance around Christmas. I have absolutley no idea why checks are only associated with Christmas dressing, maybe you could shed some light on this? But hey, that is what has occurred! Well things are about to change around here Jennifer, that checked skirt you bought 3 years ago and wore twice last winter, dig it out, it’s going to be the star of your spring wardrobe!

Clueless is the inspiration here, I know Cher, AS IF!

Just A Uniform - Checked TrendJust A Uniform - Checked TrendChecks are your new IT print, you want my advice, ditch your florals, up your checks! During Fashion month the likes of Loewe, McQueen and Fendi showed us how to check out the checks. Loewe gave gingham a 2018 revamp, we’re talking a multitude of patchwork ice cream colours here. McQueen did what McQueen does, proving that bold plaid in primary colours is what spring / summer dreams are made of. Fendi went check crazy with a whole show of checks, the models even adorned checked tight, I definitely like their style!

So how does this translate to the high street? Well you’ll be pleased to hear, checks are EVERYWHERE on EVERYTHING!

TopShop has a might fine selection of checked skirts, I am buying that pink kilt below as we speak. I’m envisaging pairing it with chunky white trainers, statement socks and a slogan tee.

ASOS have our backs covered, quite literally with these epic blazers and coats. The coat below in a mono check is the perfect way to give the trend a go, it also ticks off the sport trend with that trim too.

If you’re all over the checked trend and want to go bold ala McQueen, head straight to Nasty Gal. I am obsessed with this suit! I’ve been getting lots of wear out of the suit as a whole and each piece as separates. The trousers can be dressed up or dressed down, I loved wearing it with trainers and a cream roll neck this week. The blazer is the perfect throw on, I can’t wait to pair it with a denim mini as soon as it is time to bare my legs.

  1. I love this suit! I adore tartan (especially red) and have been known to wear two or three different tartans in different colours all together at once! This suit looks awesome on you!
